==========
Write It!
==========
◆ 映画のファン
C: Well, I think we can translate it directly in English and write "movie fan."
K: 映画のことをよく film といいますが、film fan ...
C: That's hard to say.

◆ ……の話をしています
J: Well, we are going to use the conversational way or something, "be talking about 何々."
K: OK.
J: Hmm… You could use "be discussing," but that seems a little too formal, maybe, so, we're gonna (going to) stay with "be talking about 何々."
K: speaking というと sounds like a speech or something.
J: Yeah, yeah, it does.

◆ ……(だ)と考えています
C: Well, if we translate it directly from the Japanese it would be "is thinking," right?
K: Uh-huh.
C: But, in English, it's more natural just write "think."

◆ 一人が言います
K: One says というのはどうでしょう?
J: Um... yeah, you could say that way, uh... once again, it sounds a little bit poetic or literally or whatever. So, we're gonna stick with conversational and "One of them says 何々."

************

J: I think they did.
C: Oh, yeah, always.
J: They usually do, right?
K: Okay. All right.
J: Good job.

Before We Move On!
==================
K: Okay, so, here... here's uh… the sort of million-dollar question for you.
J: Uh-huh.
C: Okay.
K: I hope you answer this difficult question. Who is your favorite actor?
C: Ohhh....
J: Oh, gotta think about that.
C: That’s a good question.
K: Yeah.
C: Jeff?

J: Um... I actually have a couple.
C: Oh.
K: Give us one.
J: Okay. Well, Tom Cruise and Sigourney Weaver (シガニー・ウィーバー).
C: Oh!
J: I like them both.
K: They're great.

J: Yeah, the reason I like Tom Cruise is... most people think of him as just an action star.
C: Yeah.
J: But he actually has wider range.
C: So, he's got a huge range.
J: He has a huge range. He was in other movies where he didn't play an action hero at all.
C: Uh-huh.
K: Right.
J: I thought he was very good, and he can also do comedy.
C: Indeed.
J: And he, uh... he's very dedicated. He does all of his own stunts.
C: Oh, yeah.
J: Which is a little scary, but...
K: Such an exceptional actor.
J: Yes.

K: Carolyn, who is your favorite actor?
C: Well, she is one of my favorite actors, Helena Bonham Carter (ヘレナ・ボナム=カーター).

C: She was in "Charlie in the Chocolate Factory."
J: Okay.
C: "A Room with a View" is one of my favorite movies, and all of the Tim Burton (ティム・バートン) movies.

J: Alice and Alice in Wonderland.
C: Alice and Alice in Wonderland and ... just....
K: Now, I know who you are talking about.

J: I liked her in "The King's Speech."
C: Oh, "The King's Speech," and "Harry Potter." She's got such a huge range.
J: Yeah.
C: It's like so... she can do anything from romance, comedy, action, thriller... She's amazing.

J: So, Ken...
C: Who's your favorite actor?
K: Well, I'm glad you asked. It's Sakai Masato.
C: Oh.
J: Ah!
K: He's uh... you know, up and coming or he's already a huge star, I think.
C: Uh-huh.
K: He has such a range of acting from Samurai to Banker to Conman to Underdog...
C: Wow.
K: In the movie called "Colonel Kuhio," he plays a fake US military man.
J: Wow.
K: He has a nose body on.
(US military manの役を演じるために、偽の「付け鼻」をしていたという意味)

C: Really?
K: You know, that guy seems to believe...
C: Yeah.
K: ... who is pretending to be ... That’s a hilarious movie.
J: Yeah.
K: I started loving him. He has great eyes, and his eyes speak a thousand words, ten thousand words. He's such an interesting actor.

(a thousand words ほとばしり出る言葉)
