Monday, March 15

K: Look. It's Luke.

==========
U R the ★
==========
J: All right.
C: Nice.
KCJ: You are really stepping up your game.

C: Jeff...
J: Uh-huh.
C: You are the star.
J: All right.

C: Mr. Bills is here.
J: Would you tell him I went to town?
C: Okay.
J: And tell him I lost my cell phone, too.
C: Yeah, about that ...
J: Yeah?
C: He's right behind you. Hi, Mr. Bills.
B: Hello.

==========
Say It!
==========
K: Carolyn, are you ready, kinda (kind of)?
C: Yeah. That's a good way to ask... kinda (kind of).
C: Yes. I'm kind of ready.
J: She'll be all right.
K: That's a kind of my social distancing language-wise. Let's hear it.
C: Alrighty.

C: See the woman with the brown hair wearing sunglasses? ×5

K: All right!
C: That was hard.

J: Wow.
KCJ: See the listeners out of breath. They are heroes!

C: Well, here, I'd recommend using the verb "see."
C: Well, a pattern we can use here is A sees B doing something.
C: So in this case, Maddie is going to be A, and it'll be "Maddie sees Luke ducking."

J: Well, "regi" actually comes from English. It's the Japanese short word for "a register" or "a cash register."
J: So in this particular case would be "behind the cash register."

C: Here, there are two ways we can do this.
K: All right.
C: We know we are talking about his ex. So, we can either write "his x, (comma) Claire, (comma), or we can reverse the order, and it can be "Claire, (comma) his ex, (comma)."

J: Well, we are going to use the word "ask."
K: Uh-huh.
J: The pattern would be "ask someone to do something."
K: All right.
J: And so, in this case, it would be "He asks Maddie to wait on her."
K: Got it.
――――――

C: Maddie sees Luke ducking behind the cash register. He says his ex, Claire, just walked in. He asks Maddie to wait on her.

J: Maddie sees Luke ducking behind the cash register. He says Claire, his ex, just walked in. He asks Maddie to wait on her.

C: Oh, yeah.
J: I bet they did.
C: Did a great job, I'm sure.
K: All right.
J: Wonderful.

===================
In Another Situation!
===================
K: So, Carolyn...
C: Uh-huh.
K: What's another situation gonna (going to) be like?
C: Well, now, Maddie's ex, Clay, just walked in.
―――――

L: Maddie! Are you all right?
M: My ex, Clay just walked in.
L: Really?
M: See the man with the dark hair wearing glasses?
L: Yeah. Do you want me to wait on him?
M: Can you? If he asks for me, tell him I stepped out.
L: Why don't you want to talk to him?
M: He's really unpredictable. He might make a scene!
C: Where's my woman?
M: See!?
―――――

K: Wow!
J: And people are asking who that voice belongs to.
C: Yeah. Hmm...
K: Well, tell them I stepped out.
J: We will.

J: I think he's snuck into the kitchen this time.
―――――

K: So, she said he was temperamental.
J: Hmm…
C: Yes.
J: It's kind of she said, he said, kind of thing.
K: Kind of a blaming game or something.

==========
U R the ★
==========
KCJ: Impeccable.
J: All right, Carolyn...
C: Uh-huh.
J: This time, you are the star.
C: Great.

C: Someone said you were inquisitive.
J: Oh, yeah?
C: Are you?
J: Who said that? When? Where? Why would they say that? Do you think I'm inquisitive?
C: I guess they were right.

==========
Say It!
==========
K: Carolyn, are you ready five times in one breath?
C: Oh, boy. Me?
J: Yeah, a piece of cake.
C: Actually, I like this. It's nice, short and sweet.
K: Yeah.
C: OK. I'll give it a shot.

C: Oh, boy. ×5

J: Yeah!
C: Hey!
KCJ: Oh, boy! That was fantastic!

J: Right. Well, it's basically, it's "someone does something to do something else."
K: OK.
J: So, the someone is Luke.
K: Uh-huh.
J: So, "Luke runs into the kitchen to hide from Claire."
K: I got it.

C: Well, the pattern here will be 誰々 tells 誰々.
K: Uh-huh.
C: So, it'll be "Maddie tells Luke."

C: Right. So, we want to show that there's going to be information coming.
K: Uh-huh.
C: So, we'll use the word "that."
K: OK.
C: And in this case, it's "that Claire said that he was temperamental."

C: Well, the first "that" is necessary, because we are introducing new information. The second "that" isn't necessary, even though it is kind of introducing information. It's not necessary.
―――――

J: Luke runs into the kitchen to hide from Claire. Maddie talks to her and then tells Luke that Claire said that he was temperamental.

J: I'm sure they did a great job.
C: Yeah. Absolutely!
K: All right.

K: So, Jeff...
J: Uh-huh.
K: What's another situation gonna (going to) be like?
J: Well, this time, Luke talks to Clay, Maddie's ex.
―――――

L: I talked to Clay.
M: What did he say?
L: He told me he was exasperated because you won't return his calls.
M: He said that?
L: Yes, and he said you were temperamental.
M: Oh, boy....
L: He saw you running into the kitchen.
M: I can't deal with him right now. What should I do?
L: Stay put for now.
M: How long?
L: Until next week, in dialog seven.

J: Oh, boy! That’s such a long time to wait.
C: Boy! That's a long time to wait. Really.
K: Long, long time.
