K: Jeff, are you ready five times in one breath?
J: I'm getting itchy just thinking about it.
C: Ugh!

All: That was fast and furious and fierce.

K: Well, getting back to your possible answer, Jeff?
J: Uh-huh. One; "The café is a 24-hour operation." This sounds familiar but I don't think it was the café that was a 24-hour operation.
K: They were talking about mosquitoes or something.
J: I think they were talking about mosquitoes. You're right.
K: Oh, yeah.
J: So, I don't think this is correct. No. Carolyn, how about yours?

C: Well, my answer was, "The man has read an article about mosquitoes." And tell the truth, I do remember hearing something about reading somewhere.
J: Uh-huh.
C: So, I think it's a strong candidate.
J: Might be.

C: Well, what about you, Ken? What about No. 3?
K: The No. 3 was, "The woman gets bit or the woman gets bitten." And I don't think the woman gets bit. The man does.
J: Yes.
C: So...
J: So...

All: The right answer is...
C: No. 2, "The man has read an article about mosquitoes."

J: Congratulations.
C: You did it.
J: Way to go.

◆ とてもよいところ
J: Well, the man says "nice looking" in the dialog.
K: Right.
J: So, we are going to borrow that "nice." It's going to be "a very nice place."

◆ なぜなら
C: We can use "because" here. And it's very handy because, "because"...
K: Yeah?
C: Because it's a great way to connect the two sentences and show the reason why. So, everything in one sentence.

K: Jeff, the last question here.

◆ その時期には蚊がすごいからです
J: Right.
K: 蚊には the がつきますか?
J: Yes. Yes, we need "the" because we are going to emphasize the "these particular mosquitoes"...
K: Ah, okay.
J: ... are fierce, especially in summer. Not all mosquitoes but "these are." So, the mosquitoes are fierce then.

K: Jeff, it's gonna (going to) be the same thing.

C: Oh, yeah.
J: They always do.
C: Great job.
J: Wonderful.

K: Well, I have a question for you again.
J: All right.
K: And this time, it's about mosquitoes.
J: Ah!
K: Do they love you, like you? Do they attack you?
J: Umm...
K: What do you think?

C: Well, speaking from my own experience, unfortunately, they love me.
KJ: Oh....
C: It doesn't matter where I go, I can be standing on a train platform and they will gravitate to me.

(gravitate 引き付けられる、引き寄せられる)

J: Wow!
C: And I'm the only one. Everyone is standing there and I'm running around the platform trying to get away from mosquitoes.

J: Um... me, not so much.
C: Oh.
J: I mean, I do get one or two. Even when I'm working in the garden, I don't get more than one or two.
K: You're lucky. Yeah, it's kind of strange.

C: Ken, how about you? Do mosquitoes love you or they hate you?
J: They love you?
K: Oh, yeah, they've been fond of me all my life. And they have short lives. Right? Those mosquitoes ... but uh...
J: Yeah.
K: I've lived so long. And I don't think I have ever been hated by those vermin. And uh...
J: You've always been a smorgasbord. You too, you and Carolyn.
K: Oh, yeah.
