(14:02)
O: Hey, guys, what’s your New Year’s resolution?
C: Well, my New Year’s resolution is to never make any New Year’s resolution.
O: [Laughter]
C: Because I only keep them for like 24 hours. How about you, Roza?
R: Well, my New Year’s resolution is one that I know I can keep. It is to keep teasing Onishi-sensei.

ラジオ英会話 Tuesday, January 4

R: Hey, everyone, Akino Roza here. Let's start today's lesson.
C: Hi, guys, Chris McVay here. You know, dear listeners, I hope you don’t get tired of listening to these strange openings.
RO: [Laughter]
C: I'm sure you don't. Let's get started.

(7:54)
C: OK, guys, ready to practice the key sentence? Onishi-sensei has explained the grammar beautifully. So, all I want to do is stress the balance here. Grasp the native speaker balance.
"On social media, she's very outspoken, but in person, she's quiet and shy."
Can you see the same pattern in both halves?

(both halves 両方の半分)

Shall we try that together?
"On social media, she's very outspoken" up to there. Ready steady, go!

(8:31)
C: And the second half, "but in person, she's quiet and shy."

(8:40)
C: That's right. Now, the whole sentence, together. "On social media, she's very outspoken, but in person, she's quiet and shy."

(8:55)
C: Did you grasp the balance? Wonderful, well done, guys.

(grasp 物や人などをしっかり「掴む」)
(grab 物や人などを急に・乱暴に「掴む」)

(14:07)
O: So, when does your personality change?
C: Well, as everybody knows I'm an extremely shy person. When I'm giving a lecture in front of lots of people, I become a confident person or I look like one. Roza?
R: Well, for me, I think it's when I'm with animals, I become very, very nice.

R: Hey, everyone, Akino Roza here. Ready for today's lesson?
C: Hi, guys, Chris McVay here. Yes, let's have a wonderful lesson today.

(4:23)
R: Hey, did you hear that the Rajio Eikaiwa textbook is available for you to study with?
C: Really?
R: Yeah, check it out.

(8:49)
R: OK, guys, let's practice the key sentence together. So, there's two parts here, right? The first part is "I love their music." You all know that, right? It's very easy. The second part is "So do I." "So do I" is always accompanied by a strong emotion. Here, the emotion is excitement. "So do I."
OK, now, let's put it together and practice.
"I love their music. -- So do I."

(accompanied by ~に付随して起こる、伴う)

(9:29)
R: Great job, everyone.

(13:59)
O: Hey, Roza, do you use "Boy!" in that way?
R: Um... not really. It sounds a little bit childish.
O: Hmm... What kind of expression do you use?
R: Well, I would use "Man!" or even in a more casual way "Dude!"

(dude おいおい、すげえ)

C: "Dude"?
R: Dude, did I underestimate my opponent.
C: So, you would say, "Dude."

C: Well, recently, I got a really upgrade putter. But I don’t know it will help improve my golf. Roza?
