ラジオ英会話 Monday, December 20/27

(0:37)
R: Hey, everyone, Akino Roza here. Ready for today's lesson?
C: Hi, guys, Chris McVay here. I'm ready and I'm sure the lesson will be successful.

(9:37)
O: Hey, Chris, I have a question.
C: Uh-huh.
O: Yeah. This is a contractive form, right?

(contractive form 省略形)

C: If you were in my place.
O: That's right.

(14:17)
O: Hey, Chris. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't buy those shoes.
C: Yes. But these shoes are very, very special. Forty years ago, nobody could have even imagined them.
R: You know, guys, you aren't required to use every single sentence from the examples in "Grammar in Action" for the ending.

(0:30)
C: Chris McVay here. That's way before my time. I'm afraid so. No memory of that.
R: Hey, everyone, Akino Roza here. Let's get started.

(8:25)
R: OK, guys. So, the point here is to have the feeling of if only as like a wishing feeling. If only 何々~。Got it?
OK. Great. So, now let's practice the key sentence with that feeling. "If only Arnold Sylvester were here."
(8:55)
R: Did you feel that wishing, wishing? Great!

(14:35)
O: If only Chris were here.
R: What are you talking about? He is here.
C: And it's time we say goodbye.

ラジオ英会話 Wednesday, December 22/29

(0:23)
R: Hey, everyone, Akino Roza here. Ready for today's lesson?
C: Hi, guys, I'm Chris Mcvay. Roza, can I ask you for some advice?
R: Sure. I hope I can help.
C: Anyway, doesn't matter. I'm just practicing.

(4:19)
R: If you are not sure what to do next about your English practice, check out our textbook. There can never be enough Rajio Eikaiwa textbooks.
C: Great.

(9:55)
C: OK, guys, are you ready to practice the key sentence? As always, the most important thing is to grasp the native speaker's feeling. And in order to do this, let's compare "I will start" with "I would start." If you say "I will start," it's just a statement of fact what you are going to do. But if say "I would start," there is a hidden condition. It means "If I were you, I would ...." So, with that feeling in mind, let's practice the key sentence together.

(grasp しっかり捕らえること)

(10:29)
"I would start by making some pencil sketches of the scenes." Go.
(10:40)
Yes, remember, "If I were you, I would start by making some pencil sketches of the scenes." One last time, go!
(10:55)
Well done, guys.

(14:25)
C: Well, guys, if I were you, I would set aside some time to study English every day. OK?
R: And be sure to listen to our program every day.

R: Hey, guys, Akino Roza here. Well, you can never have a surplus of Rajio Eikaiwa, can you?
C: That's right, Roza. And Chris McVay here. And on a serious note, I would like to thank all our listeners for their continued support.

(on a serious note = 真面目な話をすると)

(3:48)
R: I propose if you haven't gotten the textbook yet, you should go get it.
C: That's one idea.
R: Thank you.

(14:14)
O: Be more kind. Be more kind.
R: I think you are very kind, Chris, right?
C: I mean you are asking the impossible. I'm already at the highest level of kindness.
R: Yeah, what do you mean by being more kind, sensei?
O: I'm just practicing.
R: It's important that nobody take Onishi-sensei seriously.
O: It's important that we practice English every day. OK?
C: It's important that we say goodbye.
O: OK.

R: Hey, everyone, this is Akino Roza. Today is our last lesson for 2021. Let's give it our best. OK?
C: Hi, everyone, Chris McVay here. Yap, I'm sure you always give it your best but give it an extra bit of best. OK?

(14:00)
O: Hey, Chris, have you ever had a serious heartbreak?
C: Oh, yes, unfortunately. You know, when I was seven years old at an elementary school, I used to always carry this girl's bag home for her. And then one day, I saw her heading home with another guy carrying her bag. It is such a heartbreak. I still haven't gotten over it now.
O: How about you, Roza?
R: Of course. I have a heart of glass.
