"That's because he never liked her."

R: Continuing on. "That's why he made that rule."

C: OK, moving on to the next set of examples.
"The reason for his success is that ~."
"The reason for her popularity is that ~."
"The reason for their breakup is that ~."

(9:21)
C: OK guys, are you ready to practice? Today, we're looking at phrases which express the result of something. And let's focus on "so" and also "and," those two. Are you ready?

"I was very tired, so I took a break."
"I was very tired, and I took a break."

R: Another example, "Could you speak a little louder, so everyone can hear you?"
"Could you speak a little louder, so everyone can hear you?"

C: OK, and the final one, "I was so nervous that I made many mistakes."

"So" then an adjective, and "that" is another way of expressing result.
Here we go, one more time, "I was so nervous that I made many mistakes."

(10:31)
C: Well done guys, great job.
R: Excellent work, everyone.

===========
◆ Opening
===========
(0:25)
R: Hey everyone, Akino Roza here.
C: Hi guys. Chris McVay here. You know, I've often wondered how long will it take to appreciate sensei's openings.
R: At least two months.

O: Basically, this is "coming up," isn't it?
C: That's right.

=====================
◆ Feel English / Practice
=====================
(9:01)
C: OK guys, it's practice time again. Today we're concentrating on phrases related to consequences. "Consequences" literally means something that follows, so you do something and something follows.

So, let's begin with that phrase "as a result."
"As a result of hours of practice, her dance performance was magnificent."

She does hours of practice, what follows? A great improvement in her dance performance. Let's try that once more together.

"As a result of hours of practice, her dance performance was magnificent."

R: Let's continue to "consequences."
"If you go on like this, there'll be serious consequences."

One more time, "If you go on like this, there'll be serious consequences."

And let's try one more.
"He didn't study at all, and consequently he failed the exam."
"He didn't study at all, and consequently he failed the exam."

C: OK, and the final phrase, it's a very useful verb "end up." So, keep practicing this and get used to it. Here is a couple of examples.

"He started from nothing and ended up a billionaire."
Once more, "He started from nothing and ended up a billionaire."

And the final one, "After backpacking for two years, I ended up teaching English in Japan."
Last chance, "After backpacking for two years, I ended up teaching English in Japan."

(11:24)
R: You know, I think these sentences might have been a bit difficult and long, but our listeners ended up doing great, didn't they?
C: They did wonderfully.

==========
◆ Ending
==========
(14:19)
O: You know what, the other day, I was driving following the car-Navi, but ended up in the middle of nowhere.
C: Well, actually, every time I choose to use the car-Navi, it takes me on the longest route possible.
