K: ある女性というのは、a woman でいいですか？ a certain woman?
C: Well, I think it would be the easiest and sounds better to my ears just to say "a woman" here.
★ 多肉植物に害虫がいます
K: There are bugs on a woman's succulent. でどうでしょう？
C: Well, it's fine grammatically. Sounds good to me, but it also sounds though a little too dramatic, too suspenseful. And I don't really think that's necessary in this situation. So, I'd recommend starting the sentence with "a woman." So, it'll be "A woman has bugs on her succulent."
J: Sounds like the beginning of a scary movie.
C: Yeah, like I expect something really bad to happen.
J: There are bugs.
★ 彼女の兄
J: Well, yes, in Japanese, you have words for older and younger brother. But in English, you don't have to specify whether they are older or younger unless it has a specific purpose to the story. So, we're just going to use the simple "her brother."
★ 彼女に言います
K: Say to her でどうでしょう？
C: Well, again sounds good to me. But I think it sounds a little bit more conversational, just to say "tells her 何々."
★ すぐに
K: Now でどうでしょう？
J: Well, in the dialog she says, "I'll do that now." But in "Write It!" we're using it as a summary or reporting. If we use the word "now," it sounds like she's right there doing it right now.
K: Yeah.
J: So, we're going to use "right away."
C: A woman has bugs on her succulent. Her brother tells her to squish them by hand. She'll do that right away.
(succulent = plants have thick stems or leaves that store a lot of water)
CJ: Good job!

K: What's another situation going to be like this time?
C: Well, now, they are talking online. The woman is scared of the bugs.
S: This is the succulent. See this slimy stuff on it.
(slimy = covered with a thick wet unpleasant substance)
B: Yeah, you have bugs. I had the same problem with mine.
S: Ugh! How do I get rid of them?
B: Squish them.
S: Yikes! By hand?
B: Put on some gloves. That's what I did. They spread quickly. If I were you, I'd move it away from the rest of your plants.
S: I'll do that part. But could you do this squishing part for me?
B: I would if I could teleport or you could pay my airfare.
S: Hmm... I'll use gloves.
J: Oh.

K: Yeah, you know, I had the same problem with my plants. But...
J: Oh, you did.
K: Squishing them is a great idea.
