Sounds like a great firm there.
It sure does.

                        • -

Katie...
Yes.
What's another situation going to be like?
A meteorite fell into an office.

(meteorite = a piece of rock that has fallen from space and landed on the ground)

                        • -

A meteorite crashed into an office in downtown Franklin. Kevin Jenson witnessed this rare event. Kevin, what were you doing when you saw the meteorite fall?
I had just gone into the bathroom.
What time was that?
Just before lunch time. Suddenly I saw this bright fireball coming through the bathroom window.
Did you see it land?
Yes, right into the sink. It was a tiny fireball.
What did you do then?
I turned on the water and put out the fire.

(turn on ⇔ turn off)

Good thinking!
That reminds me, I have an idea for a movie. It would be called "It Came in Through the Bathroom Window."
Thanks, Kevin. Good luck.

                    • -

Could be a big hit.
So what was he doing when the meteorite fell into the office?
He was just going to the bathroom.
Yes.

ラジオ英会話 Tuesday, December 5

So, what's another situation going to be like, Jeff?
Well, this time, an elderly bamboo artist is being interviewed.

                          • -

Mr. Taketori, did you have any inkling this meteorite crashed on your land?

(inkling = a feeling that something is true or likely to happen, although you are not certain)

I thought there was a strong possibility it had because I saw the whole bamboo bush shine brightly.
That must have been shocking.
Yeah. And a couple of minutes later, in the bush, I found this gold bamboo tree and this baby sitting inside.
Experts have confirmed that it's a human baby girl.
Right. Here, hold her.
Oh, my! She must weigh a good three kilograms.
Yes.
Does she have a name?
Yes. Since we found her in a bamboo, we named her "Takeko."
Wonderful!

                      • -

That story sounds familiar.
Sounds very familiar.
Yes.
The original story must be a good seven or eight hundred years old.
Maybe even older.
Wow!
Maybe.

(encounter = a meeting, especially one that happens by chance)
(lizard = a small reptile that has a long body, four short legs, a long tail, and thick skin)

So, Katie, what's another situation going to be like today?
Betty found a fossil of a very small dinosaur.

(fossil = any remains; the shape of a bone, a shell, or a plant or animal that has been preserved in rock for a very long period)

                        • -

Betty Parker happened to find a fossil of a very small dinosaur today. Tell us where you found it, Betty.

(dinosaur = a large frightening animal that lived a very long time ago but is now extinct [=all of them died] someone or something that is very old-fashioned and no longer useful or effective)

It was in a park in my neighborhood.
How did you feel when you saw it?
I was petrified! Ha ha ha! Just kidding. It was a cute little fossil.

(petrified = afraid, extremely frightened, especially so that you cannot move or decide what to do)

So, who did you call?
Ghost Busters! Just kidding. I called my school for my science teacher
That was smart.
Mr. Jones suspects its 70 million years old.
What a little, big dinosaur!
Yeah, you're right.
Is your teacher Mr. Indiana Jones by any chance?
No, my teacher is Minnesota Jones. Indiana Jones is in a different department.
Oh.

                            • -

Minnesota Jones!
So much important information here.
Yes.
Well, here is a simple question, because ... the girl was talking about the Ghost Busters.
Yes.
That was a joke but uh... did you see that movie?
I did.
Yes.
Well, how did you feel when you saw it?
I thought it was fun and funny.
I felt great. It made me laugh a lot.
Yeah.
Did you see it, Ken?
I did.
How did YOU feel when you saw it?
Well, I thought it was a very well-written comedy and I really wanted to call those Ghost Busters to talk to them.
Immediately.
Yeah, immediately, right.

"What a turnout," they said.
Wow!
Yeah.

                        • -

So, what's another situation going to be like, Jeff?
Well, this time, it's not a snowshoe race, it's a marathon race.

                        • -

What a huge turnout for the marathon! I have coordinator of "Run Run Run” Gail Garcia with me.

(turnout = the number of people who come to an event, the number of voters in an election)

Tell us more about the race.
More than 200,000 participants are competing today.
Whoa! Can anyone join the race?
No one will be turned away. Beginners are welcome!
How many years have you been doing this?
Seventy years.
You don't say!

(You don't say. = No way! Are you kidding?)

I was 12 when I first joined Run Run Run.
What's the best part of it?
If you love to run along a clear blue ocean, this is the race for you!
Okay!

                    • -

Wow! Seventy years!
Yeah.

So Ken, tell us about what we are doing tomorrow.
Yes.
It's going to be a review day.
Oh!
Of course. Tell us more about it.
You know, I don't want to spoil it for you. You'll have a great fun.
The anticipation.

(anticipation = a feeling of excitement about something enjoyable that is going to happen soon)

You bet.

(You bet. = Certainly!)
