Well, Katie.
Yes.
What’s another situation going to be like?
They are being quite melodramatic.

                                              • -

How was your luncheon, Edith?
Oh, Tadashi, it was absolutely no fun.
Oh?
The good was completely unappetizing.
Oh, no. What did they serve?
Roast beef. You know, honey, I don’t care for red meat.
You don’t care for red meat, darling. You dislike it.
Yes, darling. I can’t even touch it with the fork. And to make the matter worse, the mashed potatoes were impossibly gooey.
Yikes. Too bad.
And to top it all off, the broccoli was so overcooked that it was unrecoverably dead.
(to top it all off = しかもその上に、挙句の果てに)
Oh, you poor thing. What would you like to do now?
I’ll have some ochazyke and listen to Rajio Eikaiwa.
Good. I’ll make tea for you.

Superb ending.
Feverous!
It’s a little different.
Nothing beats that ending, nothing can.
I think that Rajio Eikaiwa lifted her splits.
Hmm…
Wow!
And made her a new person.
Yes.

Changing the subject, do you have likes and dislikes about food?
I think everybody does. I … Yeah.
Yes.
Well, what do you not like?
Umm… Well, in my travels around Japan, I was served inago once.
And you don’t care for (inago).
I don’t really care for bugs or things like that. Yeah.
Uh-huh. Katie?
You know, for me, I don’t care for big pieces of connyaku. I like small pieces but not big pieces.
Why don’t you just cut the big piece?
Why didn’t I think of that?
That’s funny.

What’s another situation going to be like?
Well, they are singing again.
All right.
They sing their lines to the tune of "Pop Goes the Weasel," this time.

That’s right.
Let’s hear it.
----------------------

You-know-who is here!
Peacock! I can't stand him. He thinks he's God's gift to the world.
I want nothing to do with him. Here he comes!
Good morning!
What's so good about it?
You're in a bad mood! Let me cheer you up. What do crows drink to stay awake? Cawfee!
Give me a break!
Let's go elsewhere.
Leaving so soon?

Such a sad ending there.
Yeah.
I can stand him. He's good.
He's good.
He's fine.
All the characters are fun.
Oh yea, you are right.

ラジオ英会話 Wednesday, April 8

So what’s this new situation going to be like, Katie?
Well, Ken, the woman stayed at a super high-rise hotel.

                                        • -

How was your stay at the Super Sky High Hotel?
It didn't meet my expectations.
Oh, really?
We had a room on the 104th floor, but there was no elevator service!
That's bizarre.
Because of this 12 hour-long blackout.
Oh, that's too bad.
What's worse, we had to carry our own luggage to our room.
How was their complimentary breakfast?
We missed it. By the time we got to our room it was lunch time already.
Oh, that's a shame!
That's a cry in shame.

                                              • -

My goodness. They missed breakfast.
Oh my goodness.
Because they had to walk up, wow.
104th floors.
That's bizarre.
What about the dialog of the day? Did it meet your expectations?
Oh, it certainly did.
Oh, great.
I think it was a great use of the phrase, "That's bizarre."
Oh, I see. That's actually a common word, isn't it?
Yes, it is.
Conversation.
Right.
Yeah.
So is there any room for improvement in the dialog?
No, I don’t …
I don’t think so.
It can't get any better.
Oh, I love that expression. Would you say that again?
It can't get any better.
皆さん … So we have two great expressions.
Wow!
One is negative about the past, something about the past.
It could have been better.
皆さん ….
It can't get any better.
皆さん… Sounds great.

Hmmm… Wildest Airlines.
Oh my goodness.
Is that a good name in the first place? (in the first place = 最初の段階で、そもそも)

Well, I should remember this name.
Yes.

                                                  • -

What’s another situation going to be like?
Well, today, they are secret agents.

                                              • -

How was your flight, 008?
Don't ask, 009.
That bad?
We sat on the runway for hours without air conditioning.
Yikes! It was bad indeed. No foul play?
foul play = 犯罪行為、スポーツの反則からきている言葉)
I suspected it, but no. And they ran out of water. I was exasperated, to say the least!

Who wouldn't be, 008?
To add insult to injury, they lost my attaché case.
Oh, no!
I'll never fly Top Secret Airlines again.
What happened to your attaché case, 008?
Oh it had nothing important in it, 009.
Oh good.
Except…
What?
Oh … A copy of Rajio Eikaiwa.
Ouch!
Ugh…

That IS important.
Yes,
That is very important.
You don't want to lose that.
Yikes.
That's great. Have you ever been forced to sit on the runway?
Well, not for hours but my brother once sat on the runway for seven hours. Yeah.
Wow!
How about you, Jeff?
Don't ask.
Oh.
That bad?
Yes. Overnight.
Yikes!
Oh, no.
How about you, Ken?
I'm glad you asked.
Oh!
Never.
Never?
Wow. You're lucky.
You were born under a lucky star.
