ラジオ英会話 Lesson 11 Monday, April 17

===========
◆ Opening
===========
(0:32)
R: Hey everyone. Akino Roza here.
D: And I'm David Evans. It's been a while since I've heard a good joke here.

================================
◆ Right After the Japanese Explanations
================================
(4:21)
D: If it's been a while since you've last listened, I recommend the textbook. Check it out.
R: That would be lovely.

=====================
◆ Typical Expressions / Practice
=====================
(9:40)
D: OK everyone, it's practice time. Today, we'll use names quite often. You don't have to use the name, but it's good practice. So, here we go.
"Hi. How are things, Nancy?"
"Hi. How are things, Nancy? "

R: OK, next example, "Hello, Mr. Evans. How are you?"
"Hello, Mr. Evans. How are you?"

D: Very nice. Let’s try another. "Hi. How are you doing?"
And again, "Hi. How are you doing?"

R: And let's try a few more with several different versions. OK?
"Hi, Helen. What's up?"
Another one, "Hi, Helen. What's new?"

There is also a version where you can use "sup," which is a really casual expression of "What's up?"
So, let’s try that together. "Hi, Helen, sup?"

(10:58)
R: That was excellent work.
D: Very nice.

==========
◆ Ending
==========
(14:20)
D: So, Sensei, let's have coffee after this.
O: Oh, that will be nice.
R: Uh... Sensei, you should use "would" here. "Will" sounds a bit presumptuous.

(presumptuous おこがましい、厚かましい)

D: "How's today treating you?"
R: "Can't complain."
"I'm all right."

D: Lots of options here. Let's keep going.
R: "How're you doing?"
D: "Not bad."
"Pretty good."

R: And our last few.
D: Let's try two questions here.
"What's up?"
"What's new?"
