ラジオ英会話 Lesson 86 Monday, August 8

===========
◆ Opening
===========
(0:27)
R: Akino Roza here.
C: Chris McVay here. Nothing to do with that, but Roza, I have to tell you, you have a big stain on your top. No, sorry. It's part of the design, isn't it?
R: Hey!

=====================
◆ Feel English / Practice
=====================
(9:42)
C: OK guys, it's practice time. This time with the word, "on."

Now, the basic image of "on" is contact, touching. But I want to stress and highlight what Onishi-sensei has already told you. That "on" is not just from above like "on the table." Many students think that's the case. It's in any direction, OK?

So, keep that in mind as we do the practice today.

(10:07)
C: Here we go, "on my desk"
"on the wall"
"on the ceiling"
"Do you have money on you?"
(10:23)
And the similar one, "Do you have your passport on you?"
(10:31)
OK, so you can see this is nothing like "on the table," but it's the way we use "on." It has many different usages. OK, Roza?

(10:39)
R: Here are some more examples. Now remember to imagine this image of "on," right?
"Put some water on your napkin."
"Can I try it on?"
"put my tie on"

(10:59)
C: OK, continuing, "get on the bus."
"get on the train"
"get on the plane"
"get on the ship"
And a few more, "He was on a bicycle."
"He was on a motorbike."
"He was on a horse."
That's for you, Roza.

(11:33)
R: And here is the last example, "On hearing the news, she jumped for joy."
One more time, "On hearing the news, she jumped for joy."

(11:48)
R: Great job.
C: Well done guys, I hope you’re all jumping for joy at your successful practice today.

==========
◆ Ending
==========
(14:20)
O: You know, I never use the phrase, "try on."
R: Why is that?
C: Yeah, why is that?
O: Yeah, I don't go to clothing shops in the first place.
C: Ah! So, you wear the same cloths every day.
O: Yeah, all the year around.
R: That's why you've never worn anything new all the time I've known you.

(in the first place そもそも)
(all the year around 1年中)

ラジオ英会話 Lesson 87 Tuesday, August 9

===========
◆ Opening
===========
(0:15)
R: Hey, everyone, this is Akino Roza. Welcome back and let's get started.
C: Hi, guys, Chris McVay here. Yes, let's enjoy our English practice together.

=====================
◆ Feel English / Practice
=====================
(9:36)
C: OK. Are we ready for practice? We are going to keep on practicing "on."
Now, you know the basic image of contact or touching, now you imagine touching a line, and on that line, we have movement, movement along the line. So, with that in mind, let's practice together.
(9:55)
R: And keep on thinking in English.
(9:58)
C: Good point. Here we go, "I live on the Yamanote Line."
"I live on the river."
"I live on the border of Saitama and Tokyo."

(10:19)
R: Here are few more and these are also very easy to imagine with that line image, "on my way home"
"on the right track"
"on good terms with ~"

(10:38)
C: OK, more, "keep on working"
"walk on"
"read on"
"Life goes on."
"from now on"
And here is a funny one brings back memories, "She is always on at me to clean my room."

(11:10)
C: Good job everyone. I think we're on the right track. How about you, Roza?
R: I think so too. Great job, guys.

==========
◆ Ending
==========
(14:26)
O: Hey, guys, what do you usually do on your way home?
C: Well, I hurry straight home because I've missed my wife so much.
R: No, on your way home, you are actually talking to your wife on video camera. I've seen you do it, Chris.
C: Uh... I can't hide anything from you, Roza.

ラジオ英会話 Lesson 88 Wednesday, August 10

===========
◆ Opening
===========
(0:23)
R: Akino Roza here.
C: Ugh!! Chris McVay here. You know, I really want to have less stress, but your singing gives me more stress. Let's get started.

=====================
◆ Feel English / Practice
=====================
(10:19)
C: OK guys, it's practice time. And once again, we are going to practice with "on."
This is our third time so you can see how important and how often native speakers use this preposition.
So, this time, let's imagine a stage. You get on the stage and this some activity going on. Right? So, stage, activity, those two words, keep them right in front of your mind as we practice.

(10:44)
Here we go, "on Monday"
"on October 13"
"on Christmas Eve"

(10:57)
R: Let's keep going guys, "on holiday"
"on vacation"
"on a diet"
"on duty"
"on the go"
"on fire"
"on sale"
"on strike"

(11:27)
C: Let's keep going, "appear on TV"
"hear it on the radio"
"play music on the piano"
"write on a computer"
"talk on the phone"

(11:51)
R: And few more for me, "turn it on"
"switch it on"
"The TV is on."
"The movie is on."
"The exhibition is on."

(12:15)
R: Excellent guys!
C: Well done!

==========
◆ Ending
==========
(14:45)
All: Bye!
C: Stressful bye.

ラジオ英会話 Lesson 89 Thursday, August 11

===========
◆ Opening
===========
(0:29)
R: Hey, everyone, Akino Roza here.
C: Chris McVay here. No further comment.

================================
◆ Right after the Japanese translation part
================================
(4:08)
C: Well, dear listeners, is it your dream to use our textbook every month? We certainly hope so.

=====================
◆ Feel English / Practice
=====================
(9:50)
C: OK, it's practice time and we’re continuing with "on."
This time, the image is of support. So, Onishi-sensei mentioned a table. Here is a table and you can put lots of things on, the table is supporting. So that keep this main image of table and support in your mind as we practice together. Are you ready?

(10:12)
R: And I know we can count on you to think only in English, right guys?
(10:17)
C: You sure can. Here we go, "rely on ~"
"count on ~"

(10:26)
R: Continuing on, "Spiders live on flies."
One more time, "Spiders live on flies."

(10:39)
C: I hope you don't live on flies. Do you?
R: I don't.
C: Good. Anyway, maybe you can lie on your back, your back will support your body.
(10:47)
So here we go, after me guys, "lie on your back"
"lie on your stomach"
"on all fours"
"pray on my knees"

(11:06)
And you know, many movies are based on stories, the stories support the movie.
So, let's try this one together, "This is based on a true story."

(11:18)
R: And here is a few more, "on purpose"
"on impulse"
"I can't go on if I'm my own."

(11:36)
R: Excellent job, guys.
C: Well done.

==========
◆ Ending
==========
(14:34)
O: Hey, Chris, you always can't count on me, OK?
C: I've always known that.
R: 実は実話です。This is a true story.

O: Hey Chris, you have a big stain on your T-shirt. Where were you?
C: What? Where? Oh no, I've just been to a high-class restaurant. How embarrassing.
R: Well, thank you for that extra information about the high-class restaurant, Chris. You could have just said it's a wine stain.
