C: Well, I think we can almost translate it directly. So, "autumn bugs…
K: OK.

C: Isn't that kind of close to the Japanese?
K: Yeah, very close.
K: Will you say "fall bugs"?
C: Uh....
K: Autumn bug sounds better?
C: I think to my ears "autumn bugs" sounds better.
J: Yeah, sounds better to me too. Yeah. Uh-huh.

◆ 聞くのが大好きです
J: Well, you can use "like something very, very much," but probably a better more common way of saying, it would be "loves...something, something," so, "loves to hear."

◆ その鳴き声
K: That's noun form, right?
C: Yeah, and I would recommend writing "the chirping."
K: OK.

◆ 彼女の海外からの友人
K: 最初は Her friend でもってきますか？
J: Right, "her friend" comes first and then "from abroad."

C: Yeah, exactly. Um... In movies, TV and so on, the sound of crickets' chirping can be used to enhance the serenity of a situation, with the peacefulness of the situation.

(serenity = 静けさ)

J: Yeah, it can also be used to kind of making awkward silence. Uh... kind of awkward moments where maybe the two actors are not speaking.

J: Well, it's like, "I asked a question and I got crickets," meaning complete silence.
J: I asked a question and I got crickets.

C: Absolutely. "Crickets." So, for example, okay, I had this great joke and I told to everybody... Crickets.
J: It kind of equals the word "and nothing."
C: And I got no response whatsoever.

C: I had this great joke and I told to everybody... Crickets.

K: All I heard was crickets.
J: Yes, that's another one.

K: All I heard was crickets.

All: Crickets!!
J: I'm sure we're getting better response than that.
