==========
Write It!
==========
◆ 実に手に負えないことがわかります
C: I don't know if the English is identical to the Japanese, but in English, I would write "a handful," or if they're real big pain, you would write "a real handful."

◆ ~ということがわかる
C: Well, here, we would wanna use the phrase is "turn out to be." And because of the subject is Jenny's dog, it's going to be, "Jenny's dog turns out to be." And we add the last part "a real handful."

◆ キッチンのゴミ入れ
J: Of course. There's a good way to say it, "kitchen garbage can." Very simple.

********

C: I'm sure they did.
J: I know they did.
K: All right.
C: Nice work.
J: Way to go.

==================
Before We Move On!
==================
K: You remember, in dialog 12...
J: Uh-huh.
K: We had this dog command.
J: Oh, yes.
C: Oh, yes.
J: He says, "Max, down!"
K: Carolyn, this means ... what?

C: Well, if a dog is jumping up on its back legs and trying to jump on top of you, you say, "Down!" "Get off of me." "Get down on the floor."
J: Right.

C: Or especially if they're jumping on the counter and they're trying to get food, and you say, "Down!"

J: But there's also a more quiet command ... if you say "down" means "to lie down."
C: Yes.

K: お座り!
C: Oh, that's a very easy one, isn't it? "Sit."
J: Yes.

K: 立て!
J: "Stand."

K: おいで!
C: Oh, that's a pretty common one. "Come!"

K: ほえろ!
J: Speak!

J: You wouldn't say "talk."
K: You don't do that.
J: No, not too much.
K: They might start talking though.

C: That's true.
J: It's mostly "speak." Yeah.

K: お手!
C: Oh, that's a cute one when you want the dog to kind of give you their paw, you would say, "Shake."

K: You don't need to shake hands, right? The dog can put its paw...
J: Onto...
C: Onto ... Onto your hand. Well, I mean there are a few ways to do it. Yes, that is one of the ways.

K: 待て
J: There's a couple of ways to say this one. I would say, "Stay!"
K: Okay.
J: "Stay," and um… the other way would be, "Wait."

K: 取って来い!
C: Oh, that's a fun one. "Fetch!"
J: That's probably one, our listeners have never heard.
C: Right?
J: Yeah. Studying English, "fetch" is an interesting word, yeah.

K: 転がれ!
J: Right. "Rollover."
C: Oh, yeah.

K: 死んだふり Play dead!
C: You want to play… play dead.
J: That's right. That's right. There it is.
