◆ Opening
===========
(0:23)
R: Hey, everyone, Akino Roza here. Hey, David...
D: Yeah?
R: Oh, great! You speak English.
D: That's right. I'm David Evans, everyone. Let's have a great time today.

============================
◆ Typical Expressions / Practice
============================
(9:00)
D: All right everyone, it's time for the practice. Roza, may I have your permission to begin?
R: Of course.
D: All right everyone. Here's our first. Let's try both "OK" and "all right," one each. Here we go.

  • Would it be OK to leave my bag here?

Here is our next.

  • Would it be all right if I went home early today?

R: Let's continue.

  • Can I use your phone charger?
  • Can I have a bite of your sandwich?
  • Can I turn on the A/C?

D: All right. Let's keep going.

  • May I see your boarding pass?
  • May I speak with you privately?

R: Another one,

  • Would you approve if I wanted to take the day off?

Let's try that one more time.

  • Would you approve if I wanted to take the day off?

D: All right. And here is another.

  • May I have your permission to leave work early?
  • May I have your permission to leave work early?

(10:32)
R: Excellent work everyone.
D: Great job.

(14:20)
O: Hey, guys, if your phone battery runs out, what do you do?
D: Oh, I would never let that happen. I'd be like a fish out of water.
R: Well, I'd just buy another charger. That's why I have about five extra chargers.
O: Oh, really?
D: I'd just buy a new phone.
R: What about you, Sensei?
O: Oh, I have no friends. So, I don't use my phone outside.

ラジオ英会話 Lesson 82 Tuesday, August 2

===========
◆ Opening
===========
(0:25)
R: Hey, everyone, Akino Roza here.
D: And I'm David Evans. I must have done that a hundred times myself.
O: Oh, really.

============================
◆ Typical Expressions / Practice
============================
(9:30)
D: All right, everyone, it's time for the practice. Roza, what should we focus on today?
R: Well, I'd like to focus on the two different ways of saying these sentences. First, there's the neutral way. "We'd like to hear your opinion."

Then, there's another way to emphasize "YOU." "We'd like to hear YOUR opinion."
This "YOUR opinion" gives a nuance of contrast. Other people have said their opinion. Now, we want to hear "YOUR" opinion.

Keep that in mind. You don't have to use it with every sentence, but that's an option.

D: Excellent point. All right, guys, let's begin.

  • Could you share your opinion with us?
  • What's your opinion about it?
  • We'd like to hear your opinion.

All of those were the standard, neutral way of saying it.

R: OK, let's continue. Now, let's try emphasizing the "YOUR."

  • What are YOUR thoughts on that?
  • What is YOUR view on that?

D: Makes me feel special like the spot lights on me.
R: Good imagery.

(imagery 何かを見たり感じさせたりする五感に訴えかける)

D: Yeah, all right, let's continue.

  • Would you tell us what you think?
  • Would you tell us how you view the situation?
  • Would you tell us where you stand on it?

R: OK, and let's do the last few.

  • What's your take on that?
  • Thoughts?
  • Hit me with your thoughts.
  • Tell it to me straight.

(11:19)
R: Well, guys, I got to tell it to you straight. You were awesome.
D: Very good work, everyone.

(14:27)
O: Hey, Roza, David always comes to the studio in the great gray jacket. What do you think?
R: グレーゾーンだね。
D: It's my favorite shade. I have fifty other options but this one is my favorite.
お気に入りの色合いなんだ。他にも50種類くらいあるけど、これが一番好き。

(shade 色合い、色調)

R: OK, guys, well, I don't have much to say. My only advice is to practice with the feeling of wanting advice, OK?

D: All right everyone. Here we go.

  • Any advice?
  • What would you advise me to do?

R: Be sure to differentiate between the pronunciation of "advice" and "advise me to do." Let's continue.
