KCJ: That was as good as it gets.

C: Jeff...
J: Uh-huh.
C: You are the star.
J: All right.

C: How about some soba?
J: Sure. Let's go here.
C: Are you sure?
J: Yeah. It's as good as any.
C: Well, it's gotta be better than the last place.
J: You didn't like that?

==========

==========
K: Jeff, are you ready five times in one breath?
J: Yeah, this will be so much fun.
K: Great! Let's hear it.

J: It's so much safer. ×5
K: You did it.

J: All right.
C: Great.
KCJ: Thank you so much.

★ ……に落ち着きます
J: Well, we are going to use the word "settle" here.
J: Uh-huh. And then the phrase, it would be "settle in どこどこ."
J: So in this particular case, it would be "settle in a cave."

★ 最初に選んだところ
K: "the first place they chose" いけそうですか?
C: That's an interesting way to say it. I think we can make it short and sweet and say "first choice."
C: But we also want to say who's first choice it is. So, we'll add the word "their" and it'll be "their first choice."
―――――

C: Two bears need to hibernate. They go over the mountain and settle in a cave, which is so much safer than their first choice.

J: Two bears need to hibernate. They go over the mountain and settle in a cave, and it is so much safer than their first choice.

C: Good job, everyone.
J: I know they did. Wonderful!

In Another Situation!
===================
K: So, Carolyn...
C: Yes.
K: What's another situation gonna be like this time?
C: Well, they're groundhogs.
―――――

C: Widdy, let's hibernate in this hole.
W: Why this hole, Chocky?
C: Why not? It's as good as any.
W: It's a rabbit hole.
C: Really? Holy smoke!

(holy smoke くそ、やべー、すげぇ、なんてこった)

W: Listen, I found a hole unlike any other under that tree. Follow me.
C: Oh, brother. This hole is so much bigger and deeper.
W: So, it's so much safer.
C: Widdy, I'm getting sleepy.
W: See you next spring, Chocky.
A: Hello there, you two.
CW: Oh, you are a human.
A: Yes. I was chasing a white rabbit and fell down here. I'm Alice, by the way.
CW: Ohhh... I'm afraid you are in the wrong story.
A: Oh, dear. I wonder what happened.
C: She's funny too.
W: Hmm...
C: Funny human.
―――――

J: Well, there was a rabbit hole.
C: True.
K: She certainly is in the wrong story. Yeah.
J: And I'm not sure if it's so much safer rather than the first place they chose.
K: Yeah. So, what did you think of the ending?
J: I think it was as good as any.
C: Yeah, me too.
K: Great.

K: Wow!
J: It sounded like he was going to turn it down.

(turn down 断る reject something offered or proposed)

K: Yeah.
J: I don't know why.
K: Maybe he is too shy to be true.

================
Words & Expressions

J: That sounds very familiar. Yes.

C: Wow!
J: Good job.
KCJ: That was nice and smooth.

C: Jeff....
J: Uh-huh.
C: You are the star.
J: I'll try.

C: Care to sing with me?
J: I'm not much of a singer.
C: I'm not the best singer, either.
J: Well, in that case. ♪♬♬♪
K: Incorrigible.

(incorrigible 手に負えない behavior is bad and impossible to change or improve)

K: Jeff-san...
J: Uh-huh.
K: Care to do this five times in one breath?
J: Hmm... Carolyn, care to join me?
C: Oh, I couldn't take this honor away from you, Jeff.
J: All right. I'll do it myself.

J: Care to dance? ×5

J: Yay!
C: Hey.
KCJ: You did great.

==========

★ 誘います
K: Entice (エンタイス) とかはどうでしょう?
C: How about "ask"?
C: Well, here, we wanna start with "a woman," right? Because this is the person doing the asking.
K: Okay.
C: And we're reporting what she does.
K: Uh-huh.
C: And what she does is "She asks a man something."
K: Uh-huh.
C: So, we have "a woman asks a man" and then we want to write what she is asking him to do. So, the whole thing would be "a woman asks a man if he cares to dance."

★ 自分は/自分も
J: Well, it's just indirectly reporting what the man and woman are saying and doing. So, very simply, very conversationally, we just say "he" for the man or "she" for the woman.

★ 2人は
C: Well, sometimes we don't need to, you know, translate it literally and, you know, we could just make it simple and use the word "they."

★ 楽しいときを過ごす
J: Yes, there is a very common phrase that we use. It's "have a good time."
――――――

J: A woman asks a man if he cares to dace. The man says that he’s not much of a dancer, and the woman says that she’s not the best dancer, either. But they dance and have a good time.

C: A woman asks a man if he cares to dace. The man says he’s not much of a dancer, and the woman says she’s not the best dancer, either. But they dance and have a good time.

J: Yeah.
C: I bet they did a great job.
J: I bet they did.

In Another Situation!
===================
K: So, Jeff...
J: Uh-huh.
K: What's another situation gonna be like?
J: Well, this time, a tango is playing.
K: Wow.
―――――

W: I love this song. It's a great dance number. Care to dance?
M: To tell the truth, I’m not much of a dancer.
W: I’m not the best dancer, either.
M: Well, there aren’t so many people around.
W: Let’s get out there and dance!
M: You can dance as well as anyone, senorita!
W: You’re not too bad yourself! I could dance all night.
M: Oh, let's do it.
―――――

J: Almost sounds like a scene from Carmen.
C: Well, Ken, what did you think of it?
K: Well, I'm not much of a critic.

(critic 評論家 a person who expresses an unfavorable opinion of something)

J: Oh, that's good for us.
C: Uh-huh.
K: Well, but I know what I like.
C: Oh.
K: And I liked it.
J: Oh, thank you.
C: Thanks.
