C: Ah! Well, in that case, I think the easiest way to do it is to use the pattern "X says 何々," right? ... to just explain that this is what the person is saying.

C: So, if it's Jessica, it would be "Jessica says 何々." Or, if it's Mike, it would be "Mike says 何々." And you can add the word "that" after if you'd like.
J: Mike told Mr. Jinzai that Jessica was uncooperative. Jessica says that Mike is the one who is uncooperative. Mike says that he told Mr. Jinzai that he was partly to blame too.

C: Yeah, there were 21 members uh... at the last meeting, it looks like.
J: And in this particular case, they were discussing what to do about a bell.
C: Yeah, an old country bell.
J: An old country bell that has been in a Community Hall for 10 years.
C: Yeah,
J: They decided to donate it to a museum.
C: Yeah.
K: Now, what kind of bell is "a country bell"?
J: I would think that it's a pretty good-size bell.
C: So, it's not something you could hold in your hand. It's bigger.
J: No. And it's not a little tinkle door bell.
K: It's set on the side of a house or something.
J: Right.
C: Okay.
J: If you rang it, a lot of people could hear it far away out in the fields, I would think.
C: Oh, so if they have to come back to the house in a hurry.
J: They would call them back in either for emergencies or for a meeting or something like that. Yeah.
