Well, he really has a problem.
He does.
He's surrounded by noise.

                      • -

So, Katie, what's another situation going to be like today?
Well, this is interesting. They talk in negative forms.

All in negative forms?
That's right.

                • -

I can't wait to take down those birdfeeders.
The birds are not your friends anymore.
No. And it's not only that. I'm not lying when I say that there's been construction going on next door at work for years.
No!
There is not a day when they stop jackhammering. I can't hear myself think.
Why don't you talk to the construction crew foreman?

(foreman = 現場の監督、a man who is in charge of a team of workers)

That won't do any good.
You never know.

                  • -

It wasn't unpleasant.
Oh. Wow.

You did pretty good on the last one, I think.
Jeff, I really liked the way you emphasized the "No."
No, you are much better.
Oh, my goodness! I always learn from you.
But I ...

Excuse me, could you keep it down? I just can't hear myself think.
Oh, sorry, Ken.
Something very important... Oh, we have to finish the program.
Right.

It was worth it.
Surprise, surprise.

              • -

So, what's another situation going to be like, Jeff?
Oh, this time, John is furious.

(furious = extremely angry)

                        • -

It's nearly impossible to work with the jackhammers going all day. Do you hear what I'm saying?
Yes. I apologize for the noise.
I can't hear myself think, you know.
I understand.
How much longer will this... this jackhammering go on?
We should be done by tomorrow.
When?
Tomorrow!
One more day then.
Pardon me?
One more day then!!!

That is correct. I tell you what, I'd like to treat everyone in your office to coffee and donuts.
Of course, you have to.

Pardon me?
You don't have to.
That's the least we can do.

                          • -

Well done.
Yes.
It's the least they can do.
That's true.

Are you playing that piano, Katie?
Oh, yes.
Wonderful.

                • -

So, Katie, what's another situation going to be like today?
John's voice is hoarse.

(hoarse = speaks in a low rough voice, usually because their throat is sore)

                  • -

How was your day?
Things went better than expected. I talked to the foreman about the jackhammer noise.
How did that go?
He was very civil to me.

(civil = polite, especially in a formal way and without being friendly)

I'm glad you spoke up.
Me too. It felt good to get it off my chest.
Good.
And the best part is that his crew brought us coffee and donuts.
How nice!
But the worst part is that I lost my voice by shouting too much.
How awful.
Yeah.

                      • -

I've been there, done that.
Yes.
I've done that, too.
Me too.
I've been there. Yeah.
But it's great. I mean, he's really doing better because it felt good to get it off his chest.
Yeah, there, he spoke up. That's a wonderful thing to do.

Well, the title of our show today is "A Good Day" and I have to say, "I'm having a good day."
Great.
Anytime you listen to Rajio Eikaiwa, it's always better than expected.
Uh-huh.
Yeah. I'm having a bad hair day.
Oh!
I just can't fix this part of my hair.
My goodness.
But anyway, otherwise it's been a good day.

That's the jackhammer they were talking about.
Mystery is over.

            • -

So, Jeff...
Uh-huh.
What's another situation going to be like?
Well, this time, it's a very, very happy ending.

                      • -

Guess what? I got an A on my science project.
Way to go, Leo!
Thanks for helping me with the birdfeeders.
I'm glad I could help!

Good grief, don't tell me!
That cardinal is tapping on our window.
Let's give him a name.

Hmm. We might as well. How about "Jackhammer"?
Hey, Jackhammer!
Oh dear! It looks like Jackhammer is here to stay!

Well, this is the end of the story. That was a fun story, wasn't it?
Yes.
Very happy ending.
A very, very happy ending there.
And we found out who Jackhammer was.
That's right.
Right.
And Leo worked hard on his science project.
He did.
Great team work here.
Yes.
Let's call it "An A team."
Yeah!
They all got an A.
All righty!
